I was recently given a bunch of albums by a relative, and one of those albums is The Yardbirds: No. 4. It was published by Astan records and printed in Germany. The album cover is silver with a blue picture of the 4 band members. I'm having a hard time locating this album in any of the record collecting guides I own, and I have also failed to find it under the discography on the band's website. Anything that anyone can tell me about this album would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Any chance you know which four members they are? There were five of them for the bulk of the band's existence, including its heyday. If I had to guess, I'd say the picture, at least, comes from late in their career (ca. 1967). Is the music of that era as well? By that time they were a sort of prog-rock band, as opposed to the hard rock of their earlier period, if that helps.

The picture on the front of the album is of 4 guys, one of whom is Jimmy Page. I'm not too familiar with the rotating cast of musicians that played in this band, but I know enough about Jimmy and Jeff Beck to know that if Jimmy is the only guitarist pictured, it must've been the remaining members after Jeff left the band. Unfortunatley I don't recoginze the other 3 in the picture with Jimmy. The album really isn't helpful in naming the band members either, as all songs are credited to The Yardbirds. The songs are as follows: Side 1- 1.Got Honey in Your Hips, 2.Boom Boom, 3.Five Long Years, 4.Pretty Girl, 5. Got Love if You Want It. Side 2- 1. Putty, 2.Still I'm Sad, 3.For Your Love, 4.I'm a Man, 5.Jeff's Blues
Is there a chance this could be something that was relased long after The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin had come and gone?

Yes, it does sound like a retrospective. Those songs are all over the map in terms of which period of their career they represent. Some of them reach all the way back to the Eric Clapton era and were not (at least not originally) recorded by the lineup depicted on the cover. Sounds like a pretty good introduction to the group, though.
Incidentally, the other three guys are probably Keith Relf (vocals), Chris Dreja (bass), and Jim McCarty (drums) and the picture is probably from 1967 or early 1968.
